Border 2 Box Office Collection Day 1: The buzz around Border 2 was impossible to miss ahead of its release. Driven by nostalgia, strong patriotic emotions and Sunny Deol’s return to the war genre, the film arrived with high expectations.
With a multi-starrer cast and the legacy of a cult classic behind it, trade experts were eager to see whether the sequel could match the massive opening of Gadar 2 or at least outperform recent releases like Dhurandhar. The Day 1 box office numbers are now out, and they indicate a mixed but strong start.
Border 2 Box Office Collection Day 1
Border 2 opened to solid numbers at the Indian box office. As per Sacnilk, the war drama collected Rs 30 crore net in India on Day 1.
The opening indicates strong audience interest, especially during the extended Republic Day weekend. While the figures are encouraging for a film of this scale, Border 2 could not surpass the opening-day record of Gadar 2. Sunny Deol’s 2023 blockbuster had opened at Rs 40.1 crore, leaving Border 2 about 25% behind, despite enjoying the advantage of being a sequel.

| Film | Box Office Collection (Day 1) |
|---|---|
| Border 2 | Rs 30 cr |
| Gadar 2 | Rs 40.1 cr (arounjd 25% higher) |
When compared to Dhurandhar, Border 2 has the upper hand. The Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna-led spy thriller earned around Rs 28 crore on its opening day, which Border 2 has comfortably crossed.
DON'T MISS
However, the real test begins now. Dhurandhar showed strong growth over its opening weekend, and Border 2 will need a similar jump to narrow the gap with Gadar 2. Positive word of mouth and family audiences will be key in deciding whether the film holds steady or slows down in the coming days.
For Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, Border 2 marks the biggest opening of their careers. For Sunny Deol, Gadar 2 remains his personal best. The film went on to collect Rs 686 crore worldwide, making it the highest-grossing title of his four-decade career. Meanwhile, Dilwale (2015) continues to be Varun Dhawan’s highest worldwide grosser at Rs 388 crore.
About The Film
Released on January 23, Border 2 is a spiritual successor to JP Dutta’s 1997 classic. Directed by Anurag Singh, the film revisits the 1971 Indo-Pak war, expanding its scope to showcase joint operations by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. The story also touches upon Pakistan’s pre-emptive air strikes under Operation Chengiz Khan and India’s strong counter-offensive.
The film stars Sunny Deol as Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler, Varun Dhawan as Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, Diljit Dosanjh as Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon and Ahan Shetty as Lt Cdr Joseph Noronha. Supporting roles are played by Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh and Medha Rana.
Border 2 also stands out for its long runtime of 3 hours and 16 minutes, a choice made to give depth to each character and reflect the scale of the war. The film features a nostalgic musical tribute, including a reimagined version of the iconic “Sandese Aate Hain.”
All eyes are now on how Border 2 performs over the weekend, as audience response will determine whether it can turn its strong opening into a sustained box office run.
