Border 2 Box Office Collection Day 5: Sunny Deol’s Border 2, starring Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, saw a major slowdown at the box office on its first Tuesday. Released on January 23, the film benefited from the Republic Day holiday weekend but struggled on a regular weekday. Early estimates show Day 5 collections at just Rs 19.5 crore, a steep 67% drop from Monday’s Rs 59 crore.

The Hindi occupancy fell sharply to 24.82% during the day, compared to Monday’s 64.27%. Evening and night shows saw a small recovery, reaching 34.07% occupancy. The midweek slump shows how much the film relied on holiday audiences for its early growth.

Border 2 opened strongly, earning Rs 30 crore on Friday. Collections grew over the weekend, with Saturday bringing Rs 36.5 crore, a 21.67% rise, and Sunday hitting Rs 54.5 crore, a 49.32% jump. Monday kept the momentum with Rs 59 crore, thanks to Republic Day audiences.

Tuesday, however, saw a sharp fall to Rs 19.5 crore. Despite this, the five-day total stands at Rs 196.50 crore, and the film is expected to cross the Rs 200 crore net mark soon.

While Border 2 leads in total five-day collections, it lagged behind Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar on Day 5, which earned Rs 27 crore. Analysts suggest that if weekday earnings do not improve, Border 2 could soon fall behind in overall collections. Comparisons are also being made with Gadar 2, which maintained steadier weekday numbers.

The sharp drop highlights the film’s dependence on the Republic Day holiday. Sustaining growth during weekdays will be crucial for its overall box office performance.

Directed by Anurag Singh and produced by T-Series and JP Films, the movie showcases the combined operations of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, focusing on the Battle of Basantar.

Sunny Deol plays Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler, alongside Varun Dhawan as Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, Diljit Dosanjh as Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, and Ahan Shetty as Lt Cdr Mahendra Singh Rawat. The supporting cast includes Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana and Anya Singh.

With a budget of Rs 275 crore, the film was shot across real defence locations like INS Vikrant, NDA Pune, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir. Running 199 minutes (3 hours 19 minutes), it is one of India’s longest modern war epics. After its theatrical run, Border 2 will stream on Netflix in late March 2026, following an eight-week theatrical window.
