New Update
Vinod Mehra

Vinod Mehra's journey in Bollywood began in the 1950s when he started as a child actor. Despite early appearances in films like "Adl-e-Jehangir" in 1955, his breakthrough came much later. In 1971, he emerged as a leading actor with the success of "Ek Thi Reeta," followed by establishing himself further with hits like "Anuraag" in 1973. During this time, Mehra's star was shining brightly, surpassing even established names like Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra.

Transition to Supporting Roles

As the late 1970s approached, Vinod Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan dominated the industry, prompting Mehra to seek bigger films. However, this decision led him to often play second or third fiddle in ensemble casts. Films like "Naagin," "Jaani Dushman," "Swarg Narak," and "Kartavya" saw Mehra's role diminishing despite the films' successes. By the 1980s, he was rarely featured prominently on film posters.

Personal Life and Marriages

Vinod Mehra's personal life was as eventful as his career. He was married thrice, with his second marriage to Bindiya Goswami being the most notable. Rumors circulated about a brief marriage to his co-star Rekha, though she later refuted them. His first marriage, arranged by his mother, remained unconsummated, while his third marriage was to Kiran, with whom he had two children.

Venture into Filmmaking and Untimely Demise

In the late 1980s, Vinod Mehra explored directing and producing with the film "Gurudev," starring Sridevi, Rishi Kapoor, and Anil Kapoor. Tragically, before completing the project, Mehra passed away suddenly in 1990 at the age of 45 due to a heart attack. Director Raj Sippy finished "Gurudev," which saw a delayed release in 1993, along with several of Mehra's other unfinished films, released posthumously.
