The much-hyped box office clash between Coolie and War 2 is turning out to be underwhelming. Both big-ticket films, released on August 14, 2025, opened with massive buzz and strong numbers but have seen a steady decline since the first weekend. On day six, neither Lokesh Kanagaraj’s gangster action drama nor Ayan Mukerji’s spy thriller has shown signs of recovery, sparking debates about whether they could become two of the biggest disappointments of the year.

Coolie Box Office Collection Day 6

Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, stormed into theatres with an opening day collection of Rs 65 crore. However, the film faced dips on subsequent days, earning Rs 54.75 crore on Friday, Rs 39.5 crore on Saturday, and Rs 35.25 crore on Sunday. Monday brought in Rs 12 crore, and by Tuesday, the film managed Rs 9.50 crore net in India. This took its six-day domestic total to Rs 216 crore.

Despite the drop, Coolie has crossed the Rs 400 crore mark worldwide, making it one of Rajinikanth’s biggest hits in terms of global reach. Yet, it still trails behind other major titles like Saiyaara and Chhaava, which crossed Rs 324.75 crore and Rs 601.57 crore net in India, respectively. The film has also not overtaken Lokesh Kanagaraj’s previous successes, Vikram and Leo. While the numbers are huge, the trend suggests the film may struggle to maintain long-term momentum.

War 2 Box Office Collection Day 6

Meanwhile, War 2, featuring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, collected Rs 8.25 crore on Tuesday, pushing its six-day total to Rs 192.75 crore in India. The film earned Rs 183.50 crore in its first five days, but the weekday drop highlights its fragile hold at the ticket window.

Compared to its predecessor War (2019), which starred Hrithik alongside Tiger Shroff, the sequel has not been able to outperform expectations. War collected Rs 187.75 crore in its first six days, while War 2 is only slightly ahead with Rs 192.75 crore. Considering its massive budget and star power, the returns so far are disappointing.

Industry experts believe the real test for both Coolie and War 2 will come with the release of new films such as Paran Sundari on August 29. With collections dipping daily, sustaining their screens will be difficult. Trade circles already fear that these two big-budget ventures might join recent big flops like Son of Sardaar 2, Kingdom, and Hari Hara Veera Mallu.

About Coolie And War 2

Coolie follows the story of a former gangster who seeks revenge and becomes entangled in gold smuggling. Alongside Rajinikanth, the film features a surprise cameo by Aamir Khan, with Nagarjuna, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and Sathyaraj playing key roles. The film runs for 2 hours and 50 minutes and carries an “A” certificate, marking Rajinikanth’s first adults-only release in decades.

Meanwhile, War 2 continues the YRF Spyverse saga with Hrithik Roshan’s Kabir going undercover to infiltrate a global syndicate, while Jr NTR’s Vikram hunts him down under RAW’s command. With a runtime of 2 hours 53 minutes, it is the longest film in the franchise and also the first Indian title graded in Dolby Cinema.
