The much-anticipated box office battle between Coolie and War 2 has not lived up to its towering expectations. Both films managed to cross the Rs 200 crore milestone within their first week, but the sharp weekday declines have dented their overall performance. While Rajinikanth’s Coolie continues to stay ahead despite the slowdown, Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR’s War 2 has shocked trade watchers by falling behind YRF’s recent release Saiyaara.

Rajinikanth’s gangster drama Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, opened with fireworks at the box office. The film made an impressive Rs 65 crore on Day 1, with Tamil Nadu alone contributing Rs 44.5 crore. The Hindi version brought in Rs 4.5 crore, Telugu Rs 15.5 crore, and Kannada Rs 0.5 crore.

However, the film saw a 15.77% dip on Day 2 with Rs 54.75 crore. It collected Rs 39.5 crore on Day 3 and Rs 35.25 crore on Day 4, taking the extended weekend total beyond Rs 194 crore. Weekdays brought the usual decline, with earnings dropping to Rs 12 crore on Monday, Rs 9.5 crore on Day 6, and Rs 7.5 crore on Day 7.

Day 8 added another Rs 6.25 crore (early estimates), taking its eight-day tally to Rs 229.75 crore. On Day 9, as per early figures from Sacnilk, Coolie collected Rs 5.50 crore net across all languages in India. This pushed its total to Rs 235.15 crore domestically. Despite the dips, the film has delivered a strong first nine days and is holding better than its competition.

War 2 Box Office Collection Day 9

War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji and part of the YRF Spy Universe, has not matched the success of its predecessor. The film began with Rs 52 crore on Day 1 and grew to Rs 57.85 crore on Day 2, an 11.25% jump. But the momentum didn’t last long. Day 3 fell to Rs 33.25 crore, followed by Rs 32.65 crore on Day 4, bringing the extended weekend close to Rs 176 crore.

The weekdays proved disastrous. The film crashed to Rs 8.75 crore on Day 5, down 73.20%, and added only Rs 9 crore on Day 6 and Rs 5.75 crore on Day 7. Day 8 earned around Rs 5 crore, pushing its total to Rs 204.25 crore. Early estimates for Day 9 suggest War 2 managed just Rs 4 crore net, taking its India collection to Rs 208.25 crore.

The biggest shocker is that War 2 is now trailing behind YRF’s Saiyaara. The latter earned Rs 217.25 crore in nine days and maintained stronger double-digit collections compared to War 2. This makes War 2 a rare misfire for YRF, especially considering its A-list cast and franchise backing.

Coolie could have crossed the Rs 500 crore worldwide mark. However, the steep declines suggest it may fall short. Still, it remains the winner in this clash. On the other hand, War 2 is already being viewed as a major flop for YRF and is unlikely to recover its massive production costs.

The coming week will decide the final box office verdict, but for now, Rajinikanth’s Coolie stays in front, while Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 slips further behind expectations.
