Daler Mehndi arrested in 2003 human trafficking case

A Patiala court on Thursday sentenced two-year in jail to Punjabi singer Daler Mehendi in a human trafficking case that dates back to 2003. The singer was arrested and sent to jail after his plea was rejected today.

The district court upheld the conviction of Punjabi singer an illegal immigration racket case that dates back to 2003 and pronounced the order after 15 years. Patiala Additional Sessions judge HS Grewal ordered the immediate arrest of the singer.

In 2003, a case was filed against Mehndi, his now deceased brother Shamsher Singh, and two others at a Patiala police station, and several more complaints in the human trafficking case surfaced. It was claimed that the singer used his clout to steal large sums of money from people and illegally send them to foreign countries, primarily Canada and the United States. Following an investigation, Punjab police allegedly discovered sufficient evidence in the form of documents from Mehndi’s Connaught Place office in New Delhi.
