New Delhi: Bollywood is currently facing a challenge. Boycott Bollywood has affected a number of big-budget films, including Laal Singh Chaddha, Prithviraj, and Raksha Bandhan. However, actress Shefali Shah believes it is just a phase that will pass. Shefali and her co-stars Rajesh Tailang and Rasika Dugal were discussing her new series, Delhi Crime 2, when she opened up about the Cancel Culture, which is wreaking havoc on Bollywood.

When asked about what triggers the trending boycotts of Bollywood films, Shefali Shah said, "It's a trend. I don't think it's long-lasting." There have been debates about Bollywood's end but Shefali doesn't agree. When asked that there is a conception that Bollywood is dying, she said, "Really! I don't think it's possible. Films is a culture like cricket. It can't die...it can't. People have their point of view, they have their opinions, but there is also a lot of love and appreciation that we get. I think we should just take it in our stride and just say 'we tried' and we move on."

With the rise of OTT, the audiences' preferences have changed. Content is the king now instead of what is starring in the project and Shefali agrees. She added, "The audience was always prepared for it but maybe we underestimated it. Also, we got stuck in a rut of what was required of Bollywood, of blockbuster films etc. Back in the 70s there were some amazing movies: Chupke Chukpe, Aandhi, Aradhana...amazing content and there was a phase, where it became about a hero, a heroine, a heroine's mother etc etc. I am not saying it was not good content, but that became what was required of, or assumed that was what was digested by the audience. With OTT coming in and otherwise, people started telling different stories, which is fantastic, and suddenly it was not about stars anymore. It became about real actors and that is so amazing. These actors break their image to become the characters we love. So, yes, content is king today. There is no debate about it. I think the audience is making it very evident."
