Bollywood is still mourning the loss of her true love and late husband Dharmendra. He was the industry’s original He-Man and one of the most loved stars in Indian cinema. His passing has left a deep void. Fans, colleagues and his family are still trying to accept that he is gone. His charm, honesty and warmth continue to live through his films and the memories he left behind.
Dharmendra lived his life with full courage and emotion. He acted with full freedom and loved with full courage. The line captures the way he worked and loved. His love story with Hema Malini is still counted among Bollywood’s most emotional journeys. They faced many challenges. Yet, they stayed together and supported each other through every phase of life. For Hema, the loss of Dharam ji is still too heavy to bear and this pain was visible during his prayer meet.
Hema Malini Breaks Down Remembering Dharmendra
A video from the prayer meet is now viral. In the clip, Hema Malini tries to speak, but her voice trembles. Esha and Ahana Deol stand beside her, holding her hand. She says, “Socha nahi tha aisa bhi ek pal aayega jab mujhe bhi ek shok sabha rakhni hogi… aur woh bhi mere Dharam ji ke liye.”
Her pain fills the room. It is clear that she still cannot believe he is gone.
She continues, “Unke is tarah hum sabko chhod kar chale jaane par poori duniya shok mana rahi hai, lekin mere liye yeh ek kabhi bhool na paane wali sthiti hai. Yeh ek aisa saath tha jismein samay ki koi seema nahi hai.”
Esha and Ahana stand close, supporting their mother as she gathers the strength to speak.
“ज़िंदगी में कभी कल्पना नहीं की थी कि एक दिन मुझे अपने धरम जी के लिए शोक सभा आयोजित करनी पड़ेगी… यह पल मेरे लिए शब्दों से परे है।”

Hema Recalls His Unfulfilled Dream
Hema then talks about a lesser-known part of Dharmendra’s life. She says he had a deep love for poetry and Urdu shayari. She shares that he often wrote verses that connected with every emotion.
“Over time, a hidden aspect of his personality emerged… jab woh Urdu ki shayari karne lage… yeh unki khoobi thi.”
She adds that Dharmendra wanted to publish a book for his fans and says, “woh kaam adhura reh gaya.”
She also reflects on their bond. “Jis shakhs ke saath maine kai filmon mein pyaar ka abhinay kiya, wahi mere jeevansaathi ban gaye… woh mere liye ek prernadayak aur mazboot stambh ban kar har kadam pe mere saath khadey rahe.”
Sunny Deol And Bobby Deol Skip Delhi Prayer Meet Of Dharmendra
Hema Malini (along with her daughters) organised a prayer meet in Delhi on December 11. Many political leaders, including Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, Kiren Rijiju and Kangana Ranaut, attended the ceremony.
Before this, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol held a prayer meet in Mumbai on 27 November. Hema and her daughters did not attend that event. Instead, they organised a separate ceremony at her home on the same day.
Dharmendra’s personal life was often discussed in the public eye. He married Prakash Kaur in 1954 and had four children (Sunny, Bobby, Vijeta and Ajeeta). With Hema Malini, he had two daughters, Esha and Ahana. Despite the ups and downs, he remained a strong presence in all their lives.
Dharmendra passed away on November 24 at the age of 89. He was only days away from his 90th birthday. He had recently been discharged from Breach Candy Hospital and was recovering at home. His funeral took place on November 25 in Mumbai. Fans will get to see him one last time in Ikkis, a war drama starring Agastya Nanda.
