Music composer Pritam is once again facing plagiarism allegations after the release of Mashooqa, one of the latest songs from Cocktail 2. The track, featuring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, quickly grabbed attention online for its catchy beats and glamorous visuals. However, soon after the song dropped, social media users began claiming that its tune sounded similar to the 1993 Italian track Se So Arrubate A Nonna.
As the debate intensified online, Pritam reacted strongly to the accusations and shared a sarcastic response to trolls questioning his originality. The composer addressed the controversy through his Instagram story and appeared unfazed by the comparisons.
Pritam Reacts To Plagiarism Allegations
Responding to the criticism, Pritam wrote on Instagram, “Every single of my song release comes with set of self-appointed music detectives, who have created a new genre called ‘imaginary similarities’.”
The composer further added, “Same people, same ‘inspired by’ thesis. Boss, at this point you are my unpaid PR team. I just want to say guys, NOT NICE.”
His response quickly went viral across social media platforms, with fans divided over the controversy. While many users defended the composer and praised Mashooqa as a party anthem, others continued pointing out similarities between the song and the Italian track.

The song Mashooqa was officially released online on Tuesday after the makers organised a special music launch event for Cocktail 2. Along with Mashooqa, another track titled Tujhko was also unveiled during the event.
The song especially gained attention for Kriti Sanon’s glamorous avatar and her chemistry with Shahid Kapoor. Fans flooded social media with clips from the track, calling it visually vibrant and highly energetic.
Interestingly, actress Rashmika Mandanna had also shared Tujhko on her social media account before later deleting the post, which sparked fresh speculation online.
Cocktail 2 Trailer To Release On THIS Date
The makers have now confirmed that the trailer of Cocktail 2 will release on May 29, 2026. The announcement was revealed at the end of the song Tujhko.
Directed by Homi Adajania, Cocktail 2 stars Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles. The film serves as a spiritual sequel to the 2012 hit Cocktail, which starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty. The upcoming film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on June 19, 2026.
Apart from the music controversy, Cocktail 2 has already been surrounded by several online rumours and leaks. Reports circulating on social media claim the film explores a modern love triangle with an emotional LGBTQ+ angle involving Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna’s characters.
At the same time, industry gossip about alleged tensions among the lead cast has also gone viral online. Several reports claimed Shahid Kapoor was unhappy about Kriti reportedly having the strongest character arc in the film.
There have also been rumours about huge pay differences between the actors, although none of the claims have been officially confirmed by the makers.
