Salman Khan and Aamir Khan recently appeared on the premiere episode of Two Much With Kajol And Twinkle Khanna. During the show, they were asked about the age gap between male and female actors in Bollywood. Kajol later told The Hollywood Reporter India that the Khans didn’t answer the question directly.
Did Salman Khan And Aamir Khan Feel Uncomfortable?
Kajol shared, “No, they went around the topic quite nicely, ki humne toh nahi kiya hain… achha kiya hai kya? Really? Humko toh nahi laga (I don’t think we did, did we really do that? We don’t agree). I said really? Apko nahi laga? They beat around the bush a little bit, but they kind of did not answer it.”
She added, “You can’t get mad about these things. You genuinely can’t. Not for any other reason, but it’s something out of your control. It is not something I can control.”
The conversation came up when Kajol asked, “When the hero romances a younger woman, it’s called ‘cinema magic’. But when an older heroine romances a younger man, it’s called ‘bold’. Why do you think that is?” Aamir said casting “should be done based on requirement.”
Salman added, “Ab itna kaam kar liya hain hum sab logone ki wo jodi purani lagti hain (We have worked together so much now that the pair looks old). So for a freshness in a film, that’s when you take up somebody else who you have not worked with that much.”
Kajol responded, “It doesn’t work in the opposite way, though.”
Kajol also pointed out that many top actors, including Aamir, Salman, Shah Rukh and Sunny Deol, have acted alongside female leads much younger than them. She gave examples like Sikandar, Sitaare Zameen Par, and Dabangg.
Kajol Thinks Acting Is More Intense Than Regular 9-5 Office Job
She also spoke about how intense life on set can be. Kajol said, “It’s a very on-the-ball kind of job. When you’re shooting, you have to be 100 per cent there. We shot continuously for about 35 to 40 days (for The Trial second season). You have to work out, eat right, and maintain your body because even a small change affects your look and costumes. That’s a huge pressure.”
Kajol compared acting to a regular office job. “When you’re doing a 9-to-5 job, you can take tea breaks or just relax for a bit. We can’t. We’re constantly being watched, how we sit, cross our legs, smile, or even move. Every moment is scrutinised. It’s like being a kettle that’s always boiling; you’re always alert, always a little paranoid. That’s how we live.”
In 2025, Kajol worked on the mythological horror film Maa and co-hosted the digital talk show Two Much With Kajol & Twinkle on Prime Video. She also appeared in Sarzameen, starring Ibrahim Ali Khan and Prithiviraj Sukumaran, which was released on Jiohotstar.
