A new BBC World Service documentary titled The Killing Call is shedding disturbing new light on the murder of Punjabi singer and rapper Sidhu Moosewala. Released as a two-part series on YouTube, it uncovers previously unknown details about the singer’s alleged ties with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and what may have led to his assassination.
According to the documentary, Moosewala once had a friendly relationship with Bishnoi. He even used to send him sweet “Good morning” and “Good night” messages. This new fact is now shocking the internet. But things turned sour fast, and his shifting loyalties may have sealed his fate.
How Was Sidhu Moosewala Linked To Lawrence Bishnoi
The second episode of the doc features audio messages from gangster Goldy Brar, shared by journalist Ishleen Kaur. Brar (believed to be a mastermind behind the murder) said, “Lawrence was in touch with Sidhu. I don't know who introduced them, and I never asked, but they did speak. Sidhu used to send ‘Good morning’ and ‘Good night’ messages in an effort to flatter Lawrence.”
This alleged friendship between Sidhu and Lawrence reportedly began around 2017-2018. A friend of Sidhu added that Bishnoi genuinely liked Moosewala’s music back then. But the calm didn’t last long.
After returning from Canada, Moosewala began associating with Lawrence Bishnoi’s rival gang, Bambiha. A public performance at a Kabaddi event in a village known to be a Bambiha stronghold reportedly stirred things up. Tensions escalated after the murder of Vicky Middukhera, a close associate of Bishnoi and Brar. Many believed Moosewala helped the rival gang carry it out, though he denied any role on record. Still, the damage was done.
The documentary suggests that Sidhu Moosewala’s closeness to the Bambiha group was viewed as a betrayal. This rivalry was mixed with gang politics and appears to be one of the core reasons behind his brutal murder.
