MCD: Staying true to its commitment to make Delhi a place for every living being to co-exist, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to form committees in all its veterinary hospitals for better care of street dogs. These committees will deal with stray dogs along with dog lovers to tackle issues pertaining to the dog population in the city.
MCD to amp up treatment and sterilization of dogs
MCD has set up committees that will closely work with various organizations for the treatment and sterilization of street dogs, as directed by Mayor Shelly Oberoi. The mayor also held an important meeting with the officials of veterinary development and NGOs on Tuesday.
‘Need to increase public participation’
The Delhi mayor also said that there’s a need to increase the public participation in the animal birth control (ABC) programme. “To solve the issue of street dogs, there elements — workers, participation and infrastructure — are necessary. To solve the issues of street dogs in Delhi, MCD will ensure that NGOs do not face any problems,” Oberoi said.

“People’s notion that street dogs are not treated properly while sterilising will be changed through this process. Apart from this, dog lovers will also be assured that the street dogs will be released at the same place they were taken from for sterilisation and vaccination,” she added. MCD will also release a list of dos and don’ts for the public in this regard, Oberoi said.
