Kapil Sharma grabbed attention once again after a casual joke at Netflix’s What’s Next event in Mumbai sparked massive online buzz. The Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 actor made an on-stage remark that many viewers took as an indirect dig at gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. While the audience laughed instantly, the moment soon turned awkward when the comedian realised the sensitivity of his comment.
The incident occurred during Sharma’s interaction with Netflix India CEO Monika Shergill. Praising his long association with the streaming platform, Shergill jokingly said, “Hamari nazar, India ki nazar toh bahut time se aap par hai, Kapil. Hopefully 11 mulko ki police ki nazar nahi hone chahiye.”
Kapil Sharma Responds, Video Goes Viral
Kapil Sharma responded without missing a beat. He replied, “Ek do mulkon ke gangster bhi lage hue hai aaj kal.” The line drew loud laughter from the audience and was quickly seen as a tongue-in-cheek reference to recent controversies linked to Lawrence Bishnoi.
However, Sharma soon appeared to realise that the joke could be risky. He asked the media to cut the line from their coverage. The situation became even funnier when he realised the event was being streamed live. His reaction was also caught on camera by paps.
Clips from the event were soon shared widely on social media. The video spread fast and triggered mixed reactions. One user commented, “Bhai kyun mrityu ka aahvahan kar rhe ho.” Another wrote, “Ab toh gaye.”
Past Attacks Linked To Kapil Sharma’s Cafe
The viral moment also brought back focus on the serious incidents connected to the cafe owned by Kapil Sharma in Canada. Last year, his cafe in Surrey was targeted in three separate shooting incidents.
The first attack took place on July 10, when around 10 bullets were fired at the cafe’s windows while staff members were inside. Harjit Singh Laddi, a National Investigation Agency (NIA) most-wanted operative linked to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), claimed responsibility. He reportedly cited Sharma’s “humorous” remarks about Nihang Sikhs as the reason.
A second attack followed in August 2025. Multiple shots were fired again, and this time gangsters Goldy Dhillon and Kuldeep Sidhu (said to be associates of Lawrence Bishnoi) claimed responsibility. A video warning also surfaced, stating that the next move would be in Mumbai if Sharma ignored their calls.
The situation worsened on October 16, 2025, when a third shooting was reported. As per reports, a gunman fired at least 12 rounds from a moving vehicle at Kaps Cafe in Surrey. Once again, the Bishnoi gang allegedly claimed responsibility.
Coming to the Netflix event, Kapil’s The Great Indian Kapil Show has been renewed for Season 5, which was confirmed on this occasion.
