Emmy Awards 2023: The international Emmys night was studded with stars from all over the world and guess what? Our Indian artists also made us proud. In total, India received 4 nominations – Vir Das, Shefali Shah, Jim Sarbh, and Ekta Kapoor. Out of these, Ekta Kapoor and Vir Das nabbed the awards in their respective categories. Ekta won the 2023 Directorate Award while Vir’s Landing took home the recognition for Best Comedy.
Emmy Awards 2023: Ekta Kapoor on winning the 2023 Directorate Award
Last night was full of glamour in New York as the most-awaited International Emmy Awards came to a conclusion. Several artists from around the world gained tremendous recognition for their respective categories. Meanwhile, four artists from India also made the nation proud. However, Ekta Kapoor and Vir Das won the award for their respective categories. One of the most accomplished directors from India, Ekta Kapoor received the befitting 2023 Directorate Award for her calibre.
Upon getting the winning summon, Ekta poured out her heart before the audience. She said, “I’d like to thank my mother, who I started this company with from my dad’s garage.” She thanked India saying, “…In you I find a reflection of me. You’ve been pulled, pushed, conquered, ruled, as you found your freedom, you found your voice.” She further added with reference to India, “Without needing anyone’s validation, you became the 5th largest economy. This award is for you India, and all the Indians, we are few here but we are enough…” The director became emotional as she spoke and dedicated the award to India.

The awards night was a joyous time for a lot of artists. From India, we had four nominations – Ekta Kapoor, Vir Das, Shefali Shah, and Jim Sarbh. Ekta and Vir were the ones who nabbed the awards. Apart from them, the other winners were – Buffy Sainte-Marie, Harley and Katya, Karla Souza, A Ponte: The Bridge Brasil, The Smeds and The Smoos, Factual & Entertainment: Built To Survive, Live-Action: Heartbreak High, La Caida, Vir Das, Derry Girls Season 3, Martin Freeman, Yargi, The People’s Story, and The Empress.
