Rob Reiner’s 48-Year Gap
The night’s most emotional record belonged to someone who wasn’t there to accept it. Rob Reiner won a posthumous Emmy at the Creative Arts ceremony on September 6 for his guest role as restaurant consultant Albert Schnurr on The Bear. His previous acting Emmy came in 1978, for his supporting turn in All in the Family.
Widow’s Bay Ran The Table
Apple TV’s freshman horror-comedy dominated the season. Across the Creative Arts and Primetime ceremonies combined, it collected 14 Emmys, a record haul for a comedy series. Katie Dippold took home writing for a comedy series for the show, an early signal of the night’s direction.
Jean Smart won lead actress in a comedy for Hacks, her fifth Emmy for the role. That gives her a win for every single season of the show, an unusually clean sweep in a category this competitive.
The Pitt Holds Its Ground
Noah Wyle won lead actor in a drama series for The Pitt, which also took outstanding drama series for the second year running. The show went into the ceremony as the most-nominated program of the night.
