Actor Hansika Motwani has moved the Mumbai sessions court in a major legal step. She has filed a defamation case seeking Rs 2 crore in damages. The case is against her estranged sister-in-law, TV actress Muskaan Nancy James.
The dispute has now turned into a serious family controversy. It comes shortly after Hansika’s divorce from businessman Sohael Khaturiya, whom she married in 2022. The new legal case has added more attention to her personal life.
According to reports, Hansika says false and damaging claims were made against her and her family. She has also asked the court to stop Muskaan from speaking about her and to issue a public apology.
Hansika Motwani Case Details And Allegations
As per NDTV, Muskaan Nancy James had accused Hansika Motwani and her brother Prashant Motwani of domestic violence. She also made claims of interference in her marriage, financial pressure and property fraud involving Hansika and their mother-in-law, Jyoti Motwani.
Hansika has strongly denied all the allegations. She says the claims were made to damage her image and mislead the public. In her court filing, she also linked the accusations to a financial dispute.
She has stated that Muskaan had taken a loan of around Rs 27 lakh during her marriage with Prashant Motwani. According to Hansika, the money has not been returned even after repeated requests. The plea also asks the court to stop any further public statements from Muskaan.
Soon after the news came out, social media users reacted strongly. Some people dismissed the issue, while others criticised the family dispute being played out online.

Earlier Case Linked To Actress’ Family
This dispute is also linked to earlier legal issues in the Motwani family. In 2025, Hansika Motwani and her brother Prashant Motwani were named in a case filed by Muskaan Nancy James.
She had filed an FIR at Amboli Police Station on December 18, 2024. The case included sections 498-A, 323, 504, 506, and 34 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Muskaan also claimed in her complaint that she developed Bell’s Palsy due to alleged domestic violence. This condition caused temporary weakness on one side of her face.
Prashant Motwani and Muskaan were married in 2020 and separated in 2022.
