Happy Patel Vs Rahu Ketu Box Office Collection Day 1: The box office clash on Friday, January 16, 2026, saw two new Bollywood releases struggle to make an impact. Vir Das’ Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos and Pulkit Samrat’s Rahu Ketu opened to low numbers on Day 1. Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar continued its strong run and outperformed both, even in its seventh week.

With Dhurandhar still pulling audiences to theatres, newer films have found it hard to gain attention. Although both Happy Patel and Rahu Ketu had decent pre-release buzz, the interest did not convert into strong opening-day collections.

As per Sacnilk, Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, produced by Aamir Khan and starring Vir Das, collected around Rs 1.25 crore on its first day. While it opened slightly better than Rahu Ketu, the numbers are considered low for a film released with moderate expectations.

The spy comedy was often compared to another Aamir Khan-backed film Delly Belly. However, the comparison highlights the gap in performance. Delhi Belly had earned nearly Rs 7 crore on its opening day, making Happy Patel’s start far weaker.

On the other side, Rahu Ketu, featuring Pulkit Samrat and Varun Sharma, earned close to Rs 1 crore on Day 1. The film brought back the popular Fukrey pairing, which raised hopes of a stronger opening. However, the first Fukrey had collected about Rs 2.5 crore on its opening day, making Rahu Ketu’s numbers disappointing.

Reports suggest Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos has a budget of around Rs 25 crore. With such an opening, the film will need a noticeable jump over the weekend to post decent numbers.

Similarly, Rahu Ketu is said to be made on a budget of Rs 20–25 crore. Both films will depend heavily on word of mouth and weekend footfalls to improve their box office standing.

While the two new releases struggle, Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar remains the biggest hurdle. On the same day, the action film earned around Rs 1.65 crore, despite being on Day 43 of its theatrical run. Its steady performance has reduced space and attention for fresh releases.

About Both The Films

Both films were released on January 16 with the aim of reviving comedy in Bollywood, but neither managed to impress critics or audiences.

Directed by Vir Das along with Kavi Shastri, Happy Patel follows a British spy raised by former MI7 agents and sent on a mission to Goa. The film stars Mithila Palkar and Sharib Hashmi, with cameo appearances by Aamir Khan and Imran Khan. Despite an interesting premise, weak writing and uneven storytelling affected its box office response.

Rahu Ketu, directed by Vipul Vig, is a fantasy comedy that stars Pulkit Samrat and Varun Sharma as agents of karma sent to Earth. The film also features Chunky Panday and Piyush Mishra. While the idea sounded quirky, a cluttered screenplay and long runtime worked against it.
