Haq Trailer was dropped recently and it’s nothing but powerful. Directed by Suparn S Varma, the film stars Yami Gautam Dhar and Emraan Hashmi as leads. The story dives deep into faith, justice and women’s rights, with Yami playing a woman who refuses to stay silent.
What’s In Haq Trailer?
The trailer opens with a heated argument between Shazia Bano (Yami Gautam) and her husband Abbas (Emraan Hashmi). What starts as a personal issue soon turns into a national debate. Shazia expresses her anger and pain. She questions, “Why is every punishment and law reserved only for women, and men spared by its implications?” This leads to a legal drama that questions unfair traditions and gender bias.
The story follows Shazia’s fight for justice after Abbas divorces her through triple talaq. Once deeply in love, their marriage falls apart when he decides to marry another woman. Shazia refuses to “share” her husband and her decision changes everything. Left with no choice, she moves to court to fight for herself and her three children. Her case soon becomes a topic of national discussion.
In the trailer, Abbas confidently says, “If the whole nation is going to get into this, we will give them a spectacle.” What follows is a tense courtroom battle where Shazia’s courage becomes the voice of many silenced women.
Haq draws inspiration from the 1985 Shah Bano case – a historic legal battle that challenged gender equality and personal laws in India. Yami’s character (Shazia) is a fictional version of Shah Bano. Before the trailer ends, Yami is heard saying, “I am not just a Muslim woman. I am a Muslim woman of Hindustan, and I belong to this country.”
How Yami Prepared For Her Role
For her role, Yami Gautam reportedly studied the real Shah Bano case closely. She wanted to understand the emotional journey of a woman fighting for dignity and justice. The film explores her struggle for respect and identity in a society that often tries to silence women.
Produced by Junglee Pictures, the film mixes emotion with realism and doesn’t shy away from tough questions. It is also inspired by the book Bano: Bharat Ki Beti by Jigna Vora, which highlights women’s rights.
At the trailer launch, Yami spoke about being called a nationalist actor. She said, “I choose films based on instinct and meaningful stories, not political affiliations.”
Haq will release in cinemas on November 7, 2025.
