Popular television actress Rupali Ganguly has sparked strong reactions after openly criticising the West Bengal government. The Anupamaa star said this is not the Bengal she remembers and expressed her support for a political change in the state.

Speaking to IANS, Rupali Ganguly shared her concerns about the current situation in Bengal. She also spoke about her personal connection to the state and how recent developments have deeply affected her.

Rupali Ganguly Criticises Mamata Banerjee-Led Government

Rupali Ganguly did not hold back while speaking about Mamata Banerjee and her leadership. She said she prays for a BJP government in the state and raised concerns about the safety and confidence of voters.

She said, “I pray to Goddess Durga every day that the BJP and its flag flutter there. I have seen my family there, under TMC rule, the way the Hindus there have been oppressed. My family didn’t have the courage to come out and vote. This is not the Bengal I grew up in”.

She also referred to the R.G. Kar Medical College case and questioned the government’s response. According to her, stronger action should have been taken.

She added, “I think it is very important that BJP government comes there and I have no shame in saying that I am ashamed that somebody like Mamata Banerjee has been the CM of a beautiful, beautiful state like Bengal. I mean, what she has done, the R.G.Kar case, you know. At least, they should have removed the Dean. At least to show off, but no! They got him transferred. Because of this shamelessness, everybody there has been oppressed; they have been tortured. So, it is high time, I hope that this time, the real Bengalis, the real Bengalis, all of them should stand together.”

She further urged people to participate in voting and spoke about concerns related to law and order.

Rupali concluded, “And the Ghuspetis there, especially the Ghuspetis, if we have to take them out, if we have to take our Bengal back from the goons, then this time, please, without hesitation, go and vote. Our H.M. has said, Amit Shah has said that he himself is going to stay there. So, what are you afraid of? Go and vote for your and your children’s future.”

Anupamaa Actress REACTS To Women’s Reservation Bill

Apart from her political remarks, Rupali Ganguly also shared an emotional response after the Women’s Reservation Bill failed to pass in the Lok Sabha. In a video, the actress appeared upset and spoke about the importance of representation.

She said, “A country where Mother Durga is worshipped, where we consider women as power, where there is a woman in every house, who takes care of the whole family alone…in that country, for the past 30 years, a women’s reservation bill is pending.”

She highlighted how the bill aimed to reserve one-third of parliamentary seats for women and expressed disappointment over its rejection.

Rupali continued, “That bill only said that, in the parliament, one seat out of every three should be for women. This bill has been stuck for the past 30 years. So many promises were made. Speeches on women empowerment were given. Candle marches were held. Women’s Day posts were made. And then, when it was time to give just one vote, some people turned their backs very easily. 298 people stood up for it. And 230 people said, no.”

She further added that the issue goes beyond politics and affects women across the country. Rupali said, “They didn’t want us women to come to the Parliament. This wasn’t just a bill. This was our right. And they raised their hands and so easily rejected our right. Yes. I am an actress. People say that I am dramatic. But this is a real-life drama happening with us. No matter what religion we belong to, we are women. And in this drama, we are the audience.”

Ending her message, she said, “I really don’t understand this. But I do know this much, that there are 70 crore women in this country. And every one of them, whether they are at home, office, or in the fields, they know what happened to them. We are women. We don’t forget. And neither do we forgive so easily. We waited 30 years and you didn’t give us our rights. Now, it’s our turn to answer. Jai Hind.”
