Actress Shilpa Shetty's husband and businessman Raj Kundra was arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch on Monday night. His name has come to the fore in the pornography racket case. Police have arrested a total of nine people along with Raj.
Mumbai Police had registered a case in February this year for making pornographic films and releasing them through apps. The Mumbai Crime Branch had been investigating the case for the past few months. According to the police, Raj Kundra is emerging as the main conspirator in this case. The police have said that they have "sufficient evidence" against Raj Kundra, adding that the investigation is still underway. “Businessman Raj Kundra has been arrested by the Crime Branch in a case relating to the creation of pornographic films and publishing them through some apps. He appears to be the key conspirator. We have sufficient evidence regarding this,” Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale said in a statement. Police had earlier arrested a man named Umesh Kamat in the case who said he works for Kundra's company. Umesh's name came up during the interrogation of model and actress Gehna Vashisht. He was arrested on February 6. The racket was busted in a raid on February 4. Pornographic videos were made in a bungalow in Malad (West), Mud area. Hundreds of boys and girls arrive in Mumbai every year with the dream of working in films. Such videos were made by him under the pretext of giving work in web series and short films. These pornographic videos were uploaded to many mobile apps and porn websites. Police arrested several people during the initial raid. Among them was Rowa Khan alias Yasmeen who claimed to be a producer-director. Photographer Monu Sharma, creative director Pratibha Nalwade, actor Arish Sheikh and Bhanu Thakur were also arrested by the police.
