Actress Swara Bhasker recently found herself in controversy after sharing a viral statement about having a girl crush on Dimple Yadav, wife of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. In the same interview, she also mentioned that if people were truly free, everyone would be bisexual. The comments brought massive trolling, prompting Swara to clarify her stance in a recent interview.
Swara Bhasker Reacts To Trolling Over Bisexual Comment
Swara told India Today, “It’s so stupid. Like, I don’t understand [what led to the virality]. If someone watches the clip, they will know what I was talking about. There was nothing wrong. It’s such a light-hearted banter kind of interview. I am basically saying that I am up for a bisexual thing.”
The actress explained that her thoughts were theoretical rather than practical. “I am thinking theoretically, not practically. I mean, I am married and I have a child, so I don’t understand what the confusion is. And as far as Dimple-ji goes, I very openly admire her. She’s a very beautiful, gracious, lovely woman. And I think she is an inspiration for a lot of people. She is a politician’s wife, and she’s conducted herself with so much grace and dignity over the years. So there’s a lot for me to learn.”
She went on to say, “I put that (girl crush advocate) on my X account as I think women should admire each other, praise each other in public. I don’t understand why there’s anything wrong with that.”
Swara Updated X Bio In Response To Trolls
Following the backlash, Swara took a playful swipe at trolls by updating her X bio. She wrote, “Thought it’s time to change the bio (giggling emoji).”
Her new bio reads: “Girl crush advocate. Part-time actor, full-time Twitter pest. Chaos Queen. Shopping my way through the apocalypse. Free Palestine.”
In a prior interview with Screen, Swara said, “If people were truly free to live as they wished, everyone would be bisexual. The idea of boy-girl relationships (heterosexuality) has been imposed on us for thousands of years.”
She explained that heterosexuality became the norm mainly to ensure the continuation of the human race. When asked about her crush, she named Dimple Yadav, praising her poise and grace.
Swara Bhasker: Current Work Front
Currently, Swara appears in Colors TV’s Pati Patni Aur Panga alongside her husband Fahad Ahmad. While Swara was immediately excited about the show, Fahad admitted he was initially hesitant.
He told TOI, “To be very honest, I was a little hesitant at first because I am not from the entertainment world like Swara. But once I understood the thought behind the show, I realised it’s actually about us being ourselves. Swara was instantly excited, and her confidence gave me the push to say yes.”
The show airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:30 PM.
