Janaki Easwar: When 12-year-old Janaki Easwar sang on the Australian music reality show 'The Voice,' she not only stunned the four celebrity judges, but also won hearts throughout India. Janaki's song of Billie Eilish's 'Lovely' received a four-chair turn from the judges, who included Australian singers Keith Urban, Jess Mauboy, Guy Sebastian, and British vocalist Rita Ora. Her performance video went viral, and she now has a sizable social media following.
The 13-year-old will now sing with classic Australian rock band Icehouse and other notable performers before the T20 World Cup grand final on November 13 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
"The excitement ahead of the event is massive," Janaki told a media portal.
Janaki Easwer To Perform At T20 WC Finale
Icehouse will perform their song 'We Can Get Together' alongside Janaki and Zimbabwean-born soul and R&B artist Thando Sikwila during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Australia 2022, according to a media release.
Janaki's appearance on 'The Voice,' dressed in traditional clothing from the South Indian state of Kerala, became a source of pride for many Indian migrants.
Janaki mentioned that she would perform in Indian garb again when she takes centre stage at the MCG. "The most exciting aspect is the outfits. The team has ideas about incorporating Indian traditional clothing, and that is the most fun part," she said.
Janaki Easwer On The Voice
Janaki Easwar has drawn on her Indian and Australian roots without fear, from singing in raag Kamas on The Voice Australia to firmly capturing the essence of Billie Eilish with a cover of "Lovely." While she immediately became a sensation in Australia after impressing coaches like Keith Urban, Rita Ora, and Jessica Mauboy in 2021, she's recently spent time in India, including broadcast performances in Kerala.
She has also recently released her new English track "I've Been Waiting." Rich Fayden and Jeff Wells of Los Angeles produced the song, which is a pop/R&B oriented tune that is occasionally melancholy but ultimately contemplative in a positive way. It follows singles like "Clown" (produced by India-based Alan Joy Mathew aka The RedMoone), "Ocean Eyes" (a collaboration with guitarist-producer Sumesh Parameswar), and others.
