Jaya Bachchan has an ugly relationship with the paparazzi, and it is back in discussion after her recent comments. The actor has often reacted sharply to photographers, and her latest remarks have started another round of debate online.
She spoke at the We The Women event, where she sat down with journalist Barkha Dutt and shared how uncomfortable she feels with today’s paparazzi culture.
What Jaya Bachchan Said About Paparazzi Culture
When asked about her equation with paps, Jaya spoke openly. She said she has “zero relationship” with them. She also said, “I am the product of a media. Who are these people? Are they trained to be representing the people of this country? You call them media? I come from media. My father was a journalist. I have immense respect, tremendous respect for such people.”
Her next remarks stirred even more reactions. She said, “Magar yeh jo bahar drainpipe tight, gande gande pant pehen ke, haath mein mobile leke… they think that because they have a mobile, they can take your picture and say what they want. And the kind of comments they pass – what kind of people are these people? Kahan se aate hain? Kis tarah ka education hai? Kya background hai?”
Media Photographers UPSET With Jaya Bachchan’s Remark
These words have upset many photographers. Several well-known paparazzi have spoken up and shared their own views.
Manav Manglani (a respected name in the field) told HT City that he still respects Jaya. But he believes she has not adjusted to the new digital world. He said many untrained YouTubers and random content creators have caused confusion in the industry. He added, “I respect Jaya ji a lot. But she has not yet evolved with the digital era… these guys go to any extent to get some kind of response from celebs, which would make their video viral, which is not ethical at all and needs to be stopped immediately.”
Varinder Chawla also reacted. He shared an incident where he recorded a video of Amitabh Bachchan pushing a fan and shouting at him/her in Delhi. He didn’t upload it because Amitabh’s PR team requested him not to. He said, “Humne unki izzat rakhi.” He also said Jaya needs to understand the difference between trained paps and random YouTubers. He added, “Kisi ko aise bura mat boliye. I told my colleagues apni self respect rakhte hain, aur inko boycott karte hain.”
Pallav Paliwal also expressed his disappointment. He said paps cover stars like Amitabh Bachchan every week and support new actors during film promotions. He felt Jaya’s comments were unfair to hardworking people. He said, “Aap itni badi hasti hain, aisa nahi bolna chahiye tha.”
Jaya Bachchan Is Called Rude, But Doesn’t Care
The controversy has reopened a long-running debate. Jaya often reacts strongly when she feels her privacy is being invaded. She has spoken about this many times. Her past viral moments telling paps to move back or behave have turned her into a frequent target for memes and trolling. Many people call her rude or arrogant. Some others say her concerns about privacy are genuine, but her delivery feels harsh.
Jaya, however, seems unaffected by the backlash. She has said many times that she does not care about negative comments online.
