A special CBI court on Friday cleared actor Sooraj Pancholi of the charge of abetting the suicide of actor Jiah Khan in 2013. Jiah Khan died by suicide at her Juhu residence on June 3, 2013. Rabia Khan, Jiah Khan's mother, had accused Pancholi of murdering her daughter. Pancholi was facing the charge under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code. "Due to paucity of evidence, you have been held not guilty. You stand acquitted," the court told Suraj.
'I thank god,' Suraj's mother Zarina Wahab
Suraj has arrived at the court on Friday morning with his mother and actor Zarina Wahab. "I thank God," she said after her son's acquittal. The CBI court verdict comes almost 10 years after the suicide of fledgling actor Jia Khan.
Jiah Khan suicide Case
Jiah Khan was found dead at her home on June 3, 2013. Jiah, who had worked with Amitabh Bachchan in Nishabd, was 24 when she died.
In her suicide letter, Jiah mentioned that Suraj harassed her physically and mentally.
After Mumbai police seized her letter on June 10, 2013, Suraj Pancholi was booked and arrested under section 306 of IPC.
However, Jiah’s mother Rabia Khan insisted that her daughter was killed at the hands of Suraj and it was not a case of abetment of suicide. In October 2013, she moved to High Court demanding a CBI probe in the case.
