K Viswanath: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday condoled the death of veteran Telugu filmmaker and Dadasaheb Phalke awardee K Viswanath. The filmmaker passed away this morning. Earlier, SS Rajamouli, Mohanlal and other biggies of south had offered tributes to K Viswanath.

“Saddened by the passing away of Shri K Viswanath Garu. He was a stalwart of the cinema world, distinguishing himself as a creative and multifaceted director. His films covered various genres and enthralled audiences for decades. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” the prime minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
K Vishwanath dies at 92
Telugu filmmaker K Viswanath gained popularity with films like Sankarabharanam, Sagara Sangamam, Swathi Muthyam and Swarna Kamalam among others. He passed away at his Hyderabad residence at the age of 92 this morning. The five-time national award winner was battling age-related ailments.

About K Viswanath
Viswanath made his directorial debut with Aatma Gowravam in 1965. The film went on to win the state Nandi award. However, he got due recognition with his film 1980 Telugu film Sankarabharanam. The film went on to win four National awards. It also has a Hindi adaption tiled Sur Sangam, also directed by Viswanath.
In Bollywood, Viswanath often collaborated with Rakesh Roshan. “It was Viswanath ji whom I watched and learnt filmmaking from. We did four films together. He would shoot for the day and then leave the editing of the footage to me in the evening. It was while I edited Viswanath ji's films that I realised I could direct films,” Rakesh Roshan once told IANS.
