Lyricist Javed Akhtar filed a defamation suit against Kangana some time ago, in which a bailable warrant has been issued in the name of the actress on March 1. Kangana is accused of trying to tarnish Javed by naming him baseless.
The case was heard today in the Magistrate Court in Andheri, Mumbai. Javed Akhtar had reached the court ahead of time and his advocate was presented in front of the court by Senior Advocate Vrinda Grover. Kangana Ranaut and her lawyer did not reach for this hearing. In the hearing held on February 1, the court ordered Kangana to be present at the next hearing.
On behalf of Kangana, the junior advocate told that his senior advocate would come in the afternoon on behalf of Kangana, on which he got to hear the scolding from Magistrate RR Khan. The magistrate said at 11.35 am that Javed and his lawyer have been waiting since 11 am. After this, he asked Kangana's lawyer to reach the court in 25 minutes. The court hearing took place at 12 o'clock.
Significantly, Javed Akhtar had lodged a criminal complaint against Ranaut in the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate's court for making derogatory and unfounded allegations about him in TV interviews.
She had sought action against the actress under relevant sections of the law. His lawyer had argued that Akhtar has built his reputation in the last 55 years, adding that Ranaut made baseless comments against him on TV and social media which damaged his reputation.
At the same time, the lawyer of Javed Akhtar, Brinda Grover argued that even if the process is challenged in view of not stopping the summons of a high court, Ranaut will have to appear as per the instructions of the court. The lawyer argued, 'It is the right of the accused to appeal against the order or challenge the process, no one can deny it and no one can stop him from doing so … not even this delay. Ranaut has failed to follow the order of this court and no high court has even stayed the summons."
