Rishab Shetty is ruling the box office once again. His latest release, Kantara Chapter 1, has become a nationwide sensation. Within days of its release, it broke several records. The prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara has already crossed the lifetime earnings of Prabhas’ Salaar Part 1. However, it still lags behind Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan (in terms of 11-day earnings).

According to Sacnilk, the film has made Rs 437.65 crore in India so far. It has gone past Salaar’s Rs 406.45 crore and Baahubali – The Beginning’s Rs 420 crore. If this strong run continues, Kantara Chapter 1 could soon touch Rs 450 crore. That would make it one of the biggest Indian blockbusters ever.

The movie opened huge, earning Rs 61.85 crore on day one. Karnataka led with Rs 19.6 crore, followed by Rs 18.5 crore from Hindi markets and Rs 13 crore from Telugu states. The second day saw a slight dip to Rs 45.4 crore, but the weekend came roaring back. Saturday brought in Rs 55 crore, and Sunday jumped to Rs 63 crore. The Hindi and Kannada versions led the growth.

During the week, numbers slowed down a bit but stayed strong. Monday made Rs 31.5 crore, and Wednesday earned Rs 25.25 crore. By the end of week one, the film had collected Rs 337.4 crore in India. Week two started steady with Rs 22.25 crore on Friday. Saturday saw a 75% jump to Rs 39 crore, and early Sunday reports showed similar numbers. This pushed the total to Rs 478.65 crore.

Even with competition from Karan Johar’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, starring Janhvi Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, and Rohit Saraf, Kantara stayed strong. Johar’s film is still struggling to cross Rs 50 crore, while Kantara Chapter 1 continues to dominate theatres everywhere.

About The Film: Plot, Cast, Budget

Directed and led by Rishab Shetty, Kantara Chapter 1 goes deep into the mythology that made the first film special. It is set in the 4th century during the Kadamba dynasty. The story explores the origins of the Bhoota Kola ritual and the legend of the deity Panjurli. It follows Berme, a tribal man who becomes a warrior-mystic to protect his people and their sacred forest.

The film stars Rukmini Vasanth as Princess Kanakavathi, Jayaram as King Rajashekara, Gulshan Devaiah as King Kulashekara, and Pramod Shetty as Minister Bhogendra. Rishab plays a dual role as Berme and the mystic Mayakara. Critics have praised his performance, calling it emotional and powerful.

The music by B. Ajaneesh Loknath adds depth to the story. The visuals capture the raw beauty of coastal Karnataka. Made by Hombale Films on a grand Rs 125 crore budget, the film sets new standards for regional cinema.

At 169 minutes long, Kantara Chapter 1 offers a complete experience. It’s available in IMAX, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema formats.
