Kantara Chapter 1 is gearing up for release on October 2, 2025. The Kannada mythological action drama is a prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara and takes viewers back to the origins of the story that first won hearts with its unique take on village traditions.

Rishab Shetty (who directs and stars in the film) brings audiences into a world filled with myths and history. Unlike the first film, which introduced a mysterious village and its conflicts, this prequel explores the roots of those beliefs and the ancestral struggles behind them. Early reactions suggest the film might be even bigger and grander than the original.

Kantara Chapter 1 Early Reviews Call It Must-Watch

A review on a Telugu website went viral before the release, calling Kantara: Chapter 1 a “must-watch.” According to Telugu FilmyFocus, the scale and presentation of the film impressed viewers. They said it felt “grander than Kantara.”

The review added, “The music, background score, and cinematography are top-notch. Rishab Shetty’s performance is intense and power-packed.”

About The Film: Plot, Cast, Budget And More

Set in pre-colonial coastal Karnataka during the Kadamba dynasty, the story follows Berme, a tribal hero played by Rishab Shetty. Berme faces kings and mythical forces while uncovering the origins of the Bhuta Kola ritual. The film mixes mythology with history and shows mankind’s deep connection with nature and the divine.

Alongside Rishab Shetty, the cast includes Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, Jayaram, and Saptami Gowda. Produced by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under Hombale Films, the movie promises strong performances and well-crafted characters.

Kantara: Chapter 1 was made on a budget of around Rs 125 crore, making it one of the most expensive Kannada films. Rishab Shetty chose a profit-sharing model instead of a fixed fee, linking his earnings to the film’s box office. He has also reportedly invested his own money, showing his confidence in the project.

The film runs for 168 minutes and has received a UA certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification. Only one cut was needed for approval.

Filming began in November 2023 and wrapped up in July 2025. A major highlight is a huge war sequence shot over 45–50 days on a 25-acre set in Karnataka’s mountains. The scene involved more than 500 skilled fighters and nearly 3,000 participants, making it one of the largest action sequences ever filmed in India
