Kantara, Living Bollywood Dreams, To Enter Rs 300 Club

Kantara: Rishab Shetty starrer’s unprecedented success at the box office has proved content is the king. With no big wigs, directed, written and acted by Shetty himself, the film, bankrolled on a mere budget of Rs 10 cr, had nothing to lose. While one could have guessed film will have a strong hold among localites for its cultural values, none predicted it will become the phenomenon that it is today. Breaking records of extravaganzas such as KFG and RRR, Kantara continues to flourish at the box office.

“#Kantara is unstoppable! Started with 10 screens & increased to 150 screens in the 4th week!!!,” tweeted SR Prabhu of Dream Warriors, responsible for the distribution of Tamil version of the film, said in a tweet.

Kantara to Enter Rs 300 Club

Kantara is soon to enter Rs 300 club, a feat that seems like a distant dream for Bollywood films. Despite a handful of big releases including Ram Setu and Thank God, the Kannada film remains moviegoers’ first choice even in the north circuits. In the Year 2022, while South has managed to deliver several box office blockbuster including RRR, KGF 2 and PS 1 among others, Bollywood so far has Brahmastra to its name which crossed Rs 300 crore mark at the box office.

It is noteworthy that Brahmastra came as a thoroughly promoted heavy-budget film, while Kantara’s success is solely because of word of mouth. In fact, Kartik Aaryan’s latest release Bhool Bhulaiya, which earned the title of superhit for its box office response, collected Rs 288 cr box office, failing to touch the 300 mark. The Kashmir Files, another sleeper hit, collected a little over Rs 250 cr. And, this is not it for Kantara. With the current pace, the Rishab Shetty starrer seems to have a lot in store.

About Kantara

Kantara was released on 30 September 2022 to rave reviews. The film was released in Hindi on October 14. Despite its stupendous success, Rishab Shetty said he does not want film to be remade in Hindi. “To play such characters you have to believe in the roots and culture. There are many big actors in the Hindi film industry whom I admire. But I am not interested in remakes,” he said.
