Karan Johar Justifies Delay In Triptii Dimri, Siddhant Chaturvedi’s Dhadak 2 Release Due To CBFC Hurdles: ‘They Were Protecting…’

Karan Johar has finally shared why Dhadak 2 was delayed. The much-awaited film starring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi will now release on August 1 after facing several setbacks. Speaking at the trailer launch, Karan said the delay happened because the team wanted to stay true to the film’s story. He also said they respected the process followed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Dhadak 2 tells the story of two college students from different castes who fall in love. It highlights caste-based issues that still exist in modern India. Karan said sensitive topics like this need to be handled carefully, and he praised the CBFC for being understanding and kind during the process.

Karan Johar Says CBFC Protected The Film’s Sensitivity

At the event, Karan said, “We took a while to get to the cinema halls, but even the censor board was very understanding and very compassionate and absolutely understood what we were trying to say through the film. They were protecting the sensitivity, and we were protecting the sensitivity. We understood and respected their perspective.”

He also shared his thoughts on the risks filmmakers take when telling powerful stories. Karan said, “I've never ever been worried about repercussions because that restricts you as an artist. If I get scared in the beginning, then… there’s a line in the film, ‘If you’ve a choice then fight’, and the best way to point a put across is through art.”

Dhadak 2 Brings A Reality Check

Karan believes that Dhadak 2 will make people stop and think. He said it is a story about the reality of today’s world, and its message is important for everyone, not just those in small towns.

He explained, “Sometimes these things take time, these things can't happen overnight. That's why there are processes in the censor and we must follow... It took time, but every good thing takes time (to come out). It is a story that makes you wake up and think. These topics are not just related to small towns, but they happen around us too.”

All About Dhadak 2

Dhadak 2 is directed by Shazia Iqbal. It follows the story of Neelesh (played by Siddhant Chaturvedi), a college student who falls for Vidhi (Triptii Dimri). But their love story faces trouble because they belong to different castes.

The film was earlier planned for a November 2024 release, but got delayed due to certification and creative discussions. With all issues now resolved, Dhadak 2 is finally ready to release on August 1.
