Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga’s The Elephant Whisperers wins an Oscar for India at 95th Academy Awards

The Elephant Whisperers, directed by Kartiki Gonsalves and by Guneet Monga, from India scripted history by winning a well-deserved Oscar Best Documentary Short category. The film has a running time of 41 minutes and debuted on Netflix on December 8, 2022.

The Elephant Whisperers Bags Oscar

The Elephant Whisperers has been nominated in the Documentary Short Film Category. The other nominees in the category were Haul Out, How Do You Measure A Year, The Martha Mitchell Effect, and Stranger At The Gate. Emerging glorious at the prestigious ceremony, Guneet Monga and team were emotional while accepting the honourable award.

About The Elephant Whisperers

The Elephant Whisperers has been directed by Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Monga.

The film follows the story of a couple who is set to the task of taking care of an orphaned elephant Raghu. It then weaves a beautiful tale of companionship among the three. 

Talking about the Oscar nomination, Guneet Mongahad said, “It’s an honour to be in the esteemed company of such diverse projects in the top 15 shortlisted films at the upcoming Oscars 2023. We are beyond ecstatic that ‘The Elephant Whisperers’, a story of elephants in South India and the indigenous communities that co-exist in the same space, has been shortlisted at the 95th Academy Awards for Best Documentary Short Film.”
