Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has finally spoken about the controversy that erupted months ago after he shared a comment about Kiara Advani following the teaser of War 2. At the time, the filmmaker had posted Kiara’s bikini still from the teaser along with a remark that many people on social media called vulgar and disrespectful.
The comment quickly went viral and sparked strong reactions online. Many users criticised the filmmaker for objectifying the actress. Now, months later, RGV has reacted to the backlash and claimed that his remark was never meant to insult Kiara.
In a recent conversation with journalist Vickey Lalwani, the filmmaker said that his comment was actually meant as a compliment. However, the clarification has once again brought the controversy back into discussion on social media.
Ram Gopal Varma REACTS To His Comment On Kiara Advani
During the interview, Ram Gopal Varma was asked about the now-deleted tweet and why he removed it. The filmmaker said he does not clearly remember the exact words he had written.
He said, “I really don’t remember what exactly I wrote or what I said in the tweet because I put so many tweets, and it was such a long time back. My whole point is if you’re putting an image like that in terms of a trailer – a beautiful girl in a bikini, which is supposed to provoke something.”
He further explained that he saw the remark as a form of praise rather than criticism. “I would think of it as a backhanded compliment in the context of how I felt about it. Even from Rangeela days, I never keep my comments about beautiful women under the thing. I was always open about it even when I talked about Sridevi… I will do everything the way I am. I’m not going to change myself as a person in the way I express myself, my thoughts, and all that, but my cinema will be different.”

RGV Forgets Why He Deleted The Tweet
When asked why the tweet was deleted, the filmmaker admitted that he does not remember the reason behind removing it.
The controversy began after Ram Gopal Varma posted a comment that many people found offensive. In the now-deleted tweet, he had written, “Instead of our countries and societies, if the war between Hrithik and Jr NTR is on who gets her b**k, then War 2 will be a blockbuster”.
The remark triggered criticism online, with several users accusing the filmmaker of being disrespectful towards the actress.
How Bikini Scene Of Kiara Advani Created Huge Buzz Online
The controversy also brought attention to Kiara Advani’s much-talked-about bikini scene in War 2. The film is directed by Ayan Mukerji and is part of the popular YRF Spy Universe.
The franchise already includes films like Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan and Tiger 3. Apart from Kiara Advani, the action film also stars Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR in lead roles, while Ashutosh Rana appears in a supporting role.
Kiara’s bikini scene gained huge attention online because it marked her first on-screen bikini appearance. The actress wore a neon lime-green bikini styled by celebrity stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania. The look quickly went viral across social media platforms.
Many trolled the makers for the scenes presence in teaser, trailer and song and felt that it was a desperate attempt to create massive hype ahead of release. The scene also attracted scrutiny from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The board reportedly asked the makers to trim nine seconds from the sequence to reduce sensual imagery before the film’s release.
Despite the buzz around the bikini scene and the controversy linked to Ram Gopal Varma’s remark, War 2 received mixed to negative reviews from critics. Several reviewers criticised the film’s writing and visual effects, and it eventually underperformed at the box office. After War 2, Kiara Advani is set to appear in Yash starrer Toxic, which releases in June 2026.
