Kill Boksoon Review: Korean films are mostly topline. Action thriller Kill Boksoon is no different. Perhaps a bit too long at 137 minutes, it is entertaining and quite satisfying. The dialogue are racy and difficult to follow, but subtitles work fine. So no complaints there. All the martial arts and fisticuffs make it worth a watch.
Star assassin Gil Boksoon is unbeatable and a one-woman army. A single mother, she is struggling to keep up with her detached 15-year-old daughter, Jae-young. She has the fighting spirit of a teenager and only fears her daughter will learn of her secret career. To her, she is a secret CIA agent.
Can Boksoon successfully handle her duel life?

Boksoon’s dilemma as to whether she should call it quits to make amends with her daughter is handled brilliantly. It makes her reassess a deadly assignment, which further adds to her woes.
New-age female John Wick
Gil Boksoon is the new-age female John Wick. The dramatic treatment of the action-thriller is interesting. The climax boasts of multiple CGI shots of Boksoon and Chairman Cha’s face-off, which makes for a satisfying pulp fiction watch.
Cinematographer Cho Hyung-rae has captured gory images with cinematic brilliance.
Writer Byun Sung-hyun has allowed her characters to breathe and shine. There is Drama, action, complexity and emotions, everything. You have to choose what you want.
This fast-moving film showing a woman balancing contract killing with raising a teenage daughter is deep and leaves you with introspection. The film is satisfying and one hopes there will be a sequel soon.
