King Date Announcement: Shah Rukh Khan fans finally have a clear date to look forward to. The makers of King have officially announced the film’s theatrical release, and the news has quickly taken over social media. After months of silence, the date reveal has added fresh buzz around one of the most awaited films of the coming year.
Over the last few years, Shah Rukh Khan has seen a strong turnaround. After Zero failed at the box office in 2018, the actor took a long break from films. That pause only increased audience curiosity. When he returned in 2023, he delivered three big releases (Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki). All three worked well at the box office and brought him back to the top.
Since then, Shah Rukh Khan has been focused on King. The title announcement video (released on his birthday) was well received and hinted at a darker, action-heavy role. Until now, the release date was kept under wraps, which kept fans guessing.
King Date Announcement: Shah Rukh Khan Starrer Locks December 2026 Release
The makers have now confirmed that King will hit cinemas on December 24, 2026. The film is set for a Christmas release. Director Siddharth Anand shared the update on social media and wrote, “#KING is Ready to ROAR on 24.12.2026 in Cinemas (sic).”
Before the announcement, Siddharth Anand had dropped hints online. He posted “And…” followed by “The date…”, which led to plenty of speculation. On January 24, the suspense has finally ended with the official confirmation. This also marks another collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Siddharth Anand after Pathaan.
King Set To Clash With Aneet Padda’s Shakti Shalini
With the date locked, King is now set for a direct box office clash. The film is scheduled to release on the same day as Aneet Padda starrer Shakti Shalini. The film is part of Maddock’s popular horror-comedy universe, which includes Stree and Munjya.
Trade chatter suggests that Maddock Films may rethink the release plan. A Shah Rukh Khan film arriving during Christmas usually dominates screens and audience attention. Industry observers believe Shakti Shalini could shift its date to avoid a tough clash.
Christmas releases often attract family audiences, making the window even more valuable. With Shah Rukh Khan returning in a big action role, the pressure is clearly on competing films.
About This Shah Rukh Khan Starrer
Directed by Siddharth Anand, King is an action thriller reportedly inspired by the 1994 French film Leon: The Professional. Shah Rukh Khan plays a seasoned assassin who lives in the shadows of the underworld. The story follows his bond with a young woman (played by his daughter Suhana Khan) whom he trains as his protege.
The film features a strong cast. Abhishek Bachchan plays the main antagonist. Deepika Padukone and Rani Mukerji appear in key roles linked to the story’s emotional core. Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi and Jaideep Ahlawat are also part of the ensemble.
Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures, King is reported to be made on a budget of around Rs 350 crore. The film has been shot across Mumbai and Warsaw, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
