Koffee With Karan 8: Karan Johar opens up on the controversy over Deepika-Ranveer’s episode: ‘It was one of our…’

Learn about the behind-the-scenes story as Karan Johar discusses his personal observations and the fine line that must be drawn between sensitivity and entertainment while doing celebrity interviews.

Koffee With Karan 8: Power couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh were featured in the Koffee with Karan 8’s pilot episode. The couple talked extensively about their marriage and what makes them tick, displaying their most genuine side. But the episode also prompted vicious abuse, with many claiming that Deepika was only using Ranveer as a backup plan before they got married.

Karan Johar opened up on the controversy over the first episode

In the most recent episode of his show, which included Aditya Roy Kapur and Arjun Kapoor, Karan discussed the constant trolling and called it “ridiculous.” He said, “I felt that it was one of the most honest episodes and the most heartfelt episodes I did with Deepika and Ranveer. I think all three of us kind of came clean on so much of our emotional heft, so many of our feelings. And then there was a ridiculous kind of aftereffect. I just want to put it out there that episode angered me, and the reaction angered me. I thought it was one of our best episodes. They were outstandingly honest.”

He carried on, “They were earnest. They spoke so much. They shared so much. They were so gracious. And then you’re f*cking talking about some nonsense. I am like, ‘What do you know about somebody else’s personal life and marriage?’ Tu apne ghar pe dekh na (Look at what’s happening at your own home) is what I wanted to tell them. I wanted to show them my f*cking middle finger! I am like, you know, just shut up.”

Karan shared having a panic attack

In the same episode, Karan talked about having an anxiety attack and revealed that, after seeing a doctor, he has been taking medicine for anxiety. He said, “What happens to me or anybody else, it can happen to anybody. It doesn’t mean you need a trigger, sometimes it is a result of many things, sometimes there’s a trigger. When I spoke about my anxiety, it was to share a part of life that exists. That exists today as well, while I speak. I’ve no fear in saying that ‘I’m on medication.”
