Tanmay Bhat: Comedians Tanmay Bhat and Samay Raina’s ad campaign for Kotak Mahindra Bank has been pulled off after old tweets of the AIB founder mocking Lord Ganesha resurfaced on the micro-blogging platform. The tweets are at least a decade old. After severe criticism, Kotak Mahindra Bank released an official statement saying they did not support 'views of actors'.

“We, at Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. do not support or endorse the views of actors made in their personal capacity that harm or offend any individual or group. We have withdrawn the campaign,” read a tweet on their official handle.

Tanmay Bhat's old tweets resurface

Tanmay Bhat’s old tweets started resurfacing after Kotak Mahindra bank launched their new ad starring Tanmay Bhat. Netizens dug out controversial comedian's decade old tweets, wherein he had made remarks about children, rape and Lord Ganesha.

In one of the tweets, Tanmay had written, "How do you know children don't love rape?", while another tweet read, "For someone who's supposed to remove obstacles, Ganesh surely does a shit job with traffic".

Sharing his tweets, actress Kangana Ranaut had tweeted, "Problem with most right wing ideologists is that they perceive leftists choices as their mistakes,please understand Tanmay has been chosen as a brand match for precisely what you are objecting to."

Several other celebs had also condemned Tanmay's tweets calling him 'Hinduphobic'. Many also called out Kotak Mahindra Bank for choosing Tanmay to represent their brand.
