Folk singer and social activist Neha Singh Rathore is once again at the centre of a heated political and social debate. This time, it is over a controversial remark made by Girdhari Lal Sahu, the husband of Uttarakhand women empowerment minister Rekha Arya, about daughters from Bihar. A strongly worded video released by Neha on social media platform X has gone viral, triggering widespread outrage and sharp reactions online.

In the video, Neha Singh Rathore directly questions the mindset behind the statement. She asks, “Kya Bihar ki betiyan bikau hain? Kya unki keemat 20–25 hazaar rupaye hai?” She alleges that the daughters of Bihar are being openly insulted while society watches in silence.

Neha Singh Rathore Makes Sharp Comments Against Girdhari Lal Sahu

In her video, she refers to an old obscene saying, “Gareeb ki meharaaru gaon bhar ki bhaujai,” and accuses political leaders of reshaping it in a dangerous way. She claims that such thinking reduces women to commodities. According to her, the remark by Girdhari Lal Sahu reflects this very mindset, where the dignity of women is reduced to a price tag.

Her attack turns even more biting when she brings in sarcasm around the idea of “Amrit Kaal.” Neha says people can swallow this insult like government-rationed dal. If it tastes too bitter, they can sip it slowly like tea and call it a contribution to national interest. She adds that in today’s times, nothing feels wrong anymore. Even contaminated water can be packaged as nectar.

A major part of Neha’s video focuses on public silence. She questions why there is no mass protest. She asks why the Bihar government has not raised objections, why no case has been filed, and why people have not taken to the streets. According to her, this silence shows how society has become used to tolerating humiliation.

She also recalls a past incident involving Bihar’s chief minister, where a young girl’s hijab was allegedly pulled on a public stage. Neha claims there was no outrage even then. Leaders smiled, people stayed quiet, and life moved on. She says this sent a message across the country that the dignity of Bihar’s daughters does not matter.

Neha further questions the disappearance of political leaders who once flooded Bihar during elections. She asks where those leaders are now and says that Bihar’s dignity is being stripped away while those in power sleep. She adds that even a poor man is ready to fight for his daughter’s honour and this silence cannot continue.

What Girdhari Lal Sahu Said

The outrage began after a video of Girdhari Lal Sahu from a public programme in Someshwar, Almora district, went viral. In the clip, he was heard saying, “Bihar mein 20–25 hazaar mein ladkiyan mil jaati hain… hum kunwaron ke liye Bihar se ladki laayenge.” The remark triggered massive backlash over women’s dignity. Sahu later issued an apology, but the damage had already been done.

FIR And Police Station Drama Surrounding Neha Singh Rathore

Amid the ongoing controversy, fresh drama unfolded on Saturday night at Hazratganj police station in Lucknow. As reported by TOI, Neha Singh Rathore arrived there with her husband, Himanshu Singh, to record her statement in connection with an FIR lodged against her earlier this year. Her sudden appearance caused a stir, drawing media attention and senior police officials.

ACP Hazratganj Vikas Jaiswal clarified that Neha came on her own. However, he stated there is no legal provision to record a woman’s statement during night hours under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Her statement was later recorded by the investigating officer. The ACP said, “She will be called again during the daytime if needed.”

The FIR (registered in April) relates to Neha’s song and social media posts that were interpreted as targeting the prime minister and questioning the government’s response to terrorism. Police also alleged that her posts promoted enmity between communities and undermined national integrity. After receiving a second notice pasted at her residence, Neha and her husband decided to comply.
