Maalik Teaser: Rajkummar Rao Channels His Inner ‘Animal’ In Bloody, Dangerous Gangster Role - WATCH

Rajkummar Rao has shocked fans with a bold new look in the teaser of his upcoming film Maalik. Known for his comic timing and romantic roles, Rao now takes on a dark, violent character. 

The 1-minute-21-second teaser shows him as a fierce gangster from 1988 Allahabad. Bloodied and armed.

In the teaser video, he is heard saying, “Samaaj mein do tarah ke log hote hain - ek jo pasina bahaakar apne haq ki roti kamate hai, aur ek jo khoon-paseena bahaakar roti chheen lete hai... Maalik paida nahi hue to kya hua... ban toh sakte hain.”

Fans who loved him in lighter films like Stree 2 or Mr & Mrs Mahi are stunned by this gritty transformation. Rao’s blood-smeared, angry look shows a man who means business and won’t back down. 

Comparisons are already rolling in, with some calling this his “most darkest role” yet, similar to Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal or Farhan Akhtar’s Marco. But Maalik feels more grounded and emotionally raw. The way Rao delivers his powerful dialogue has left the internet on fire.

Manushi Chhillar will play the female lead in this gangster drama. Her role remains a mystery, but insiders say she brings strong emotional depth to the story. The film also marks the directorial debut of a fresh filmmaker, whose name has not yet been announced. It is being produced by Ramesh Taurani's TIPS Films.

Maalik will release in theatres on July 11, 2025. This film follows Rao’s recent project Bhool Chuk Maaf, a time-travel drama with Wamiqa Gabbi that got decent reviews and a moderate box office response.
