Javed Akhtar defamation case

A Mumbai court on Monday issued summons against Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut in a defamation case filed by lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar. As per the latest development, the actor has now been summoned to carry out the further investigation into the matter.

The Andheri metropolitan magistrate had directed the Juhu police in December last year to carry out a probe into the complaint of defamation filed by Akhtar against Ranaut before the court in November last year, as reported by Press Trust of India.

The police on Monday handed over their report to the court, saying that the case filed against the actor demands a further investigation. Magistrate R R Khan, after perusing the report, issued summons to the Manikarnika actress.

The court has now ordered Juhu police to file a report by January 18, 2021 and has posted the hearing for March 1, 2021.

Akhtar's lawyer also informed the court that a summon has already been issued against the actress last month, asking her to be present before the police to record her statement. However, the actor is yet to respond to the same.

Akhtar had filed a complaint against Kangana, alleging that the actress had made a defamatory comment against him in an interview while talking about the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
