Mardaani 3 Box Office Collection Day 2: Rani Mukerji’s Mardaani 3 has opened at the box office with steady but underwhelming numbers amid competition with Border 2. Although the film showed growth on its second day, the overall response has fallen short of expectations for a popular franchise.

The cop thriller (released on January 30) is facing tough competition in theatres. Big release Border 2 continues to dominate screens, limiting the film’s reach. While Mardaani 3 picked up some weekend momentum, its early collections suggest it is struggling to attract a wider audience.

According to Sacnilk, Mardaani 3 earned around Rs 4.00 cr net on its opening Friday. On Saturday, the film saw a noticeable jump and collected approximately Rs 6.25 cr. This took its two-day India net total to Rs 10.25 cr.

The Day 2 growth reflects better occupancy during evening and night shows. However, the overall trend remains modest. Despite the rise, Mardaani 3 is 33% behind Yami Gautam’s Article 370, which earned Rs 5.9 cr on Day 1 and Rs 7.4 cr on Day 2.

The comparison with its predecessor also raises concern. Mardaani 2 had collected Rs 10.35 cr in its first two days, slightly higher than the third instalment. As a sequel released with higher expectations, Mardaani 3 was expected to open at least Rs 2–3 cr higher. Instead, it is lagging behind, reinforcing the view that the film is currently an UNDERPERFORMER.

With a reported budget of around Rs 75 cr, the present pace suggests that a full recovery could be difficult from the theatrical run unless collections improve sharply in the coming days.

About The Cop Thriller

Directed by Abhiraj Minawala, Mardaani 3 sees Rani Mukerji return as Shivani Shivaji Roy, now a senior officer with the National Investigation Agency. The story follows a high-profile investigation involving the kidnapping of two girls, which exposes a brutal “beggar mafia” acting as a front for an illegal medical racket.

The film features a dual-villain setup. Mallika Prasad plays the cold and calculating Amma, while Prajesh Kashyap appears as Ramanujan, a mastermind posing as an NGO founder. Janki Bodiwala plays a young constable assisting Shivani, and Jisshu Sengupta reprises his role as her husband.

While Rani Mukerji’s performance has received appreciation, audience reactions have been mixed. Many viewers felt the second half was predictable and lacked tension. The villains were also seen as less impactful compared with earlier films. Some noted a lack of freshness, with familiar storytelling patterns reducing the film’s overall impact.

Whether Mardaani 3 can turn things around now depends largely on word of mouth and its performance over the crucial Sunday and weekday period.
