Marvel Avengers Doomsday: ‘Maybe They Just Didn’t Have…’ Benedict Cumberbatch On Doctor Strange’s Absence After Cast Reveal

Benedict Cumberbatch reacts to Doctor Strange’s absence in Avengers Doomsday. He hints at possible reasons while keeping fans curious about Marvel’s plans.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is heading towards its biggest movie yet with Avengers Doomsday. This film will kick off the final chapter of the Multiverse Saga and is already making fans talk. But the biggest question right now is simple. Will Doctor Strange be part of it?

Doctor Strange Missing From Marvel Avengers Doomsday Cast Reveal

Marvel Studios recently hosted a long livestream where they revealed 27 confirmed stars for Avengers Doomsday. The line-up included returning Avengers, some new heroes, and even X-Men characters. But Benedict Cumberbatch’s name was nowhere to be found. That absence surprised fans since Doctor Strange has been one of the key players in the Multiverse story so far.

The confusion grew because Cumberbatch has said different things about his role in the film over the past year. When the project was still called Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, he confirmed his appearance. Later, he admitted script changes had shifted his role to Avengers: Secret Wars (coming in 2027). Then he flipped again, telling Business Insider, “I am in that one.” However, the cast list told a different story.

Benedict Cumberbatch Breaks His Silence

Cumberbatch has now spoken about the situation. Talking to Omelete, he joked, “Who knows? Maybe they just didn’t have enough chairs.” His playful words have only added more mystery. Fans are now debating whether he is covering up a surprise or hinting at a bigger plan from Marvel.

Marvel itself has suggested that the first reveal was not the full picture. Even Robert Downey Jr. teased that more surprises are coming. Rumours also say a second cast reveal could happen before the release. If that’s true, Doctor Strange could still show up in Avengers Doomsday.

Why Doctor Strange Still Matters In The Story

It would be odd for the Multiverse Saga to move forward without Doctor Strange. In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, he set off with Clea to repair an incursion he caused. Since Avengers Doomsday will deal with similar threats, his knowledge would be vital. Even if he does not play a major role, he could appear in a post-credits scene to set up Secret Wars.

Adding to the mystery, Marvel has an untitled movie set for July 2027, between Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars. Many believe it could be Doctor Strange 3. If so, it would explain his absence in Avengers Doomsday and build the path to the grand finale.

Fans Waiting For Answers On Doctor Strange’s Absence In Marvel Avengers Doomsday

At this point, Marvel has not confirmed anything. But Cumberbatch’s recent comments show that nothing is final. Doctor Strange may not be listed officially, yet Marvel is known for saving its biggest surprises for the big screen.

Avengers Doomsday will release in cinemas on December 18, 2026. Whether Doctor Strange appears or not, the film promises heroes, villains, and a Multiverse showdown like never before. Fans will just have to wait and see if the Sorcerer Supreme opens a portal into the chaos.
