Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma has finally reacted to the controversy surrounding his performance at DAV (PG) College, Dehradun. The incident, which took place during a college cultural event on April 10, has triggered legal action and public criticism after allegations of abusive and explicit language on stage.
The matter reached official bodies, including the Haryana State Commission for Women. They have summoned the singer for questioning.
Masoom Sharma Responds To Dehradun Event Controversy
Speaking to IANS, Masoom Sharma addressed the backlash and expressed regret over his behaviour during the event. The singer said he is aware of the criticism and has been reflecting on his actions.
He stated, “Mujhe regret hai. Aur baar baar main uska. Mujhe regret hai. Meri aatma ko pata hai ki main kis mental, kis position main tha us time. Mujhe uska poora regret hai. Mujhe zyada logo ko batane ki zaroorat nahi hai. (I have a lot of regret for that. My soul knows what position I was in at that time. I know, I have a lot of regret for that.I don’t need to tell many people.)”
At the same time, Sharma also reacted to the notice issued by the Haryana State Commission for Women. He questioned the jurisdiction of the panel over an incident that took place outside Haryana.
He said, “It is a good thing, they are thinking of the whole world. They could also send a notice to Kerala, even to Iran. One should stay within one’s jurisdiction, that I can say.”
What Happened At DAV PG College Event
The controversy began during a student union cultural festival at DAV PG College in Dehradun on April 11, 2026. Masoom Sharma was performing when the situation reportedly escalated on stage.
According to reports, the singer allegedly used explicit language during his performance. The incident is said to have taken place shortly after Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had left the venue.
During the performance, Sharma reportedly made strong statements directed at individuals he claimed were threatening him. He allegedly said, “A gangster came to kill me… if you have the guts, then come here”.
This performance led to serious legal consequences. An FIR was registered at Dalanwala police station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including provisions related to obscene acts and insulting the modesty of a woman.
The controversy escalated after the Haryana State Commission for Women took suo motu cognisance of the matter on April 12. The commission, led by Chairperson Renu Bhatia, issued a formal notice to Masoom Sharma. He has been asked to appear before the panel on April 18 at 11 a.m. in Panchkula, Haryana.
According to the commission, the alleged behaviour during the Dehradun college event is considered inappropriate and unbecoming of a public performer, especially in a student gathering.
