Mithun Chakraborty to take centre stage with PM Modi in Kolkata tomorrow

Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty who was previously associated with Trinamool Congress(TMC) and worked as Party's Rajya Sabha member is likely to take over the centre stage along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in election-bound West Bengal's capital Kolkata. The actor will participate in a rally that is scheduled to be held in Kolkata's Brigade Parade Group in the presence of PM Modi. The development comes amid rumours surfaced that the actor may be BJP's star face in West Bengal Assembly Polls 2021. Moreover, actor's recent meeting with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat at his Bungalow in Mumbai on February 16. 

BJP National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, however, has refused to comment on the matter. "There will be only public and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is the biggest celebrity. We'll welcome those coming in. If Mithun Chakraborty comes, we will welcome him," he said, according to ANI.

Meanwhile, BJP has neither refuted the rumours. Sources in the party have said that the  actor is one of the many important faces that the party is considered to field against TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee.

"There are many Bengalis in the state and outside who are important people, concerned about Bengal's downward slide under Mamata Banerjee," said state BJP Vice-President Jay Prakash Majumdar. "Mithun Chakraborty is one of them."

 Besides Chakraborty, some more important Bengali faces are set to join the BJP for the upcoming elections, according to sources. The election in the state will be held across eight phases from March 27 to April 29, the results of which will be declared on May 2.
