Happy birthday Chay: South star Naga Chaitanya, fondly called Chay by fans, celebrates his 36th birthday today on November 23. The Telugu star ‘s first breakthrough film was Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Ye Maaya Chesave, released in 2010 even though he made his acting debut in 2009 with Josh. In Ye Maaya Chesave he acted opposite Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Soon the two fell in love and their fairytale love story had many magical moments. The two tied the knot in 2017 but as they say, every love story doesn’t have a happy ending. The couple broke many a heart when they announced their separation in April 2022.
On Chay’s birthday today, let’s take a look at five films that the power couple of Tollywood did together.
Ye Maaya Chesave (2009)
Helmed by acclaimed film-maker Gautham Vasudev Menon, the film also marked the debut of Samantha Ruth Prabhu. In the film, Chaitanya plays a mechanical engineering graduate aspiring to be a film-maker. The film was simultaneously made in Tamil as ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa’. AR Rahman was the music director and the film was hailed by both critics and audiences. It turned out to be one of the most successful films of the year.
Manam (2014)
The film directed by Vikram Kumar brought Chaitanya and Samantha together. Chaitanya’s father Nagarjuna and grandfather Akkineni Nageswara Rao besides Shriya Saran also figured in the film. Dubbed as a fantasy drama, Manam is based on the themes of rebirth and eternal love. The film is set in various time periods, over the course of a hundred years up until 2013. Naga Chaitanya played a goofy college student and the audience loved him.
Manam was made on a budget of Rs 28 crore and went on to gross Rs 62 crore at the box office. The film won five Filmfare Awards South.

Autonagar Surya (2014)
Autonagar Surya is a 2014 Telugu action film directed by Deva Katta. The film stars Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in lead roles. The film is set in the 1990s and revolves around an orphan named Surya, played by Chaitanya, who works as a mechanic in Autonagar. Samantha plays the love interest Surya.
Mahanati (2018)
Mahanati is a 2018 Telugu-language biographical drama film based on the life of actress Savitri. The story is narrated from the perspective of a journalist. Written and directed by Nag Ashwin, the film was produced by Priyanka Dutt. Naga Chaitanya played a guest role in Mahanati.
Samantha portrayed Madhuravani, a journalist from whose perspective the story is narrated.
Mahanati was the highest-grossing South Indian film that starred a woman as the primary character.

Majili (2019)
Majili is a 2019 Telugu romantic sports film directed by Shiva Nirvana and produced by Sahu Garapati and Harish Peddi. The film stars Naga Chaitanya, Samantha Ruth Prabhu besides Divyansha Kaushik, with Subbaraju, Rao Ramesh, and Atul Kulkarni in supporting roles.
The film marks Chaitanya and Samantha’s first collaboration after their marriage. It was their fourth collaboration after Ye Maaya Chesave, Manam, and Autonagar Surya. Though they also acted in Mahanati, Chaitanya had a guest role while Samanth had a supporting role.
Majili is a love triangle, of sorts, that burns at all ends. It’s impossible to be unpredictable with an ending that needs to be happy. The film released on April 5 in 2019 and received positive response from audience and critics.
