National School of Drama appoints Paresh Rawal as its new chairman

National School of Drama appointed veteran actor Paresh Rawal as the new chairperson, announced by Prahlad Singh Patel the Minister of Culture on Thursday. The 65 year old Actor is known for his versatility and quirky roles, and is an expert of the Gujarati stage art. In a tweet Mr. Patel expressed his thoughts, “Renowned artiste Paresh Rawal has been appointed as Chairman of National School of Drama by Rashtrapati Bhavan. I am glad that students and artistes will be able to take advantage of his talent. I congratulate him”.

In a conversation with news agency PTI, Paresh Rawal said, “It will be challenging but fun. I will do my best because this is a field I know very well.” A tweet shared by the official handle of the National School of Drama, which is the country’s premier theatre school, read, “NSD family welcome the legend to shower his guidance to NSD for achieving new heights.”

There is long list of achievements for Mr. Paresh Rawal, a recipient of National Award for Best Supporting Acotr in 1994 for the films Sir and Woh Chokri. He is also honored with Padma Shri, there is a special place for him in hearts of audiences for his role in cult hits like Hera Pheri and Andaz Apna Apna. His breakout role was in the 1985 film Arjun. He is also former BJP MP, NSD sure hope to reach new heights with his inclusion in their team.
