The Supreme Court's child rights body NCPCR has asked streaming giant Netflix to stop streaming -- Bombay Begums -- it's latest offering over its indecent portrayal of children.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) sent a notice to the OTT platform, asking it to furnish a detailed action report within 24 hours. It said that if the streaming giant fails in doing so, it will be constrained to initiate appropriate legal action.

Talking about the alleged indecent portrayal, the commission in its notice said that this type of content will pollute children's mind as well as abuse and exploit children.

The commission said that it has taken the action based on a complaint that the web show not only promotes indulging in casual sex but also normalises drug abuse.

"Netflix should take extra precaution while streaming any content in respect of the children or for the children and shall also refrain themselves from getting into such things, " the commission quipped.

"Therefore, you are directed to look into this matter and immediately stop streaming of this series and furnish a detailed report within 24 hours, failing which the commission will be constrained to initiate appropriate action pursuant to the provisions of Section 14 of the CPCR(Commissions for Protection of Child Rights) Act, 2005," the commission said.

Bombay Begums stars Pooja Bhatt, Shahana Goswami, Plabita Borthakur, Amruta Subhash and Rahul Bose and others in pivotal roles.
