Aarya Babbar has spoken openly about the growing tension within the Babbar family and made strong remarks against his stepbrother Prateik Smita Patil. In a recent interview, Aarya accused Prateik of distancing himself from their father Raj Babbar while continuing to benefit from his support during difficult times.
The emotional comments come months after Prateik married actor Priya Banerjee in 2025 without inviting Raj Babbar or members of his first family, including Aarya and sister Juhi Babbar.
Aarya Babbar Opens Up About Broken Family Ties
Speaking during an interview with Vickey Lalwani, Aarya Babbar reflected on how delicate relationships need care and understanding. He shared that he always tried to maintain a healthy bond with Prateik despite the family’s complicated history.
Aarya said, “We nurture some relationships with a lot of love because they are too delicate, so you care for them a lot.”
According to him, things changed after Prateik’s divorce from his former wife, Sanya Sagar. Aarya claimed that communication suddenly stopped, despite repeated efforts from his side. He said, “We didn’t understand when he suddenly stopped connecting with us as soon as his divorce with his ex-wife was sorted. I texted him, called him so many times, but no response.”
Aarya also admitted that he feels frustrated whenever the public paints Prateik as the victim whenever family issues surface. He said, “We become villains, and the world paints Prateik like a victim.”
Aarya Babbar Questions Prateik’s Behaviour Towards Raj Babbar
The strongest part of Aarya Babbar’s interview came when he spoke about Prateik’s relationship with Raj Babbar. Aarya accused his brother of accepting help from their father privately but refusing to acknowledge him publicly.
He said, “It’s like when your career is not doing well, and you need pocket money from dad to survive, then he is your father. When you want to live in the house that your father bought for Smita maa, then he is your father. When you want all the benefits, then he is your father. But when you have to acknowledge him, and give him respect in front of society, then he is not your father. What is that?”
Aarya further added, “As an elder brother, I love him, but when he is wrong, he is wrong, and this is where he is wrong.”

The actor also dismissed rumours about problems between the family and Priya Banerjee. He said they had spent time together earlier during dinners and outings and that he had tried reaching out to her as well.
Actor Says Prateik Not Accepting Raj Babbar Is ‘Big Tragedy’
Raj Babbar’s personal life has remained in public discussion for decades. He was married to theatre artist Nadira Babbar and had two children, Juhi and Aarya, before falling in love with legendary actor Smita Patil.
Raj later moved in with Smita Patil, and the couple welcomed Prateik. However, tragedy struck soon after Prateik’s birth when Smita died due to childbirth complications. Raj eventually reunited with Nadira and their children, while Prateik was raised by his maternal grandparents.
Reflecting on the emotional complexity of the situation, Aarya said, “It is so tragic that the Smita maa, for whom my father left his family, today that Smita maa’s son is not ready to acknowledge him as his father. What could be a bigger tragedy than that?”
Actor Says He Will Still Support Prateik Smita Patil
Despite the bitterness, Aarya Babbar clarified that he would still stand by Prateik if needed. However, he admitted that rebuilding the same emotional bond may not be possible anymore.
He said, “As an elder brother, I will be here for him, but if I am asked if I can embrace and love him the same way, then maybe not.”
Aarya also pointed to Prateik’s changing screen names over the years as another indication of his shifting identity and distance from the family.
He said, “This is not the first time that he has done it. When he started in the industry, his name was Prateik Babbar. Then he was Prateik Smita. Then he became Prateik. Then Prateik Babbar again. And now, he is Prateik Smita Patil.”
Ending the comment on a lighter note, Aarya joked, “Maybe some numerology thing is happening in his life. We don’t know that.”
Apart from acting in Hindi and Punjabi films, Aarya Babbar has also built a career as a writer, comedian, and television personality. Over the years, he has appeared in films like Guru, Ready and Jail, while also gaining popularity through reality shows and stage performances.
