Aamir Khan has shared a surprising behind-the-scenes detail about Dhoom 3 that fans didn’t see coming. In a recent interview, the actor revealed that Rimi Sen’s character Sweety Dixit (the wife of Abhishek Bachchan’s Jai Dixit) was part of the original script but was removed before filming. The decision was made by producer Aditya Chopra and director Vijay Krishna Acharya, and Aamir still believes it was a mistake.
The 2013 blockbuster was packed with thrilling stunts and twists, including Aamir’s double role. But according to him, the final cut missed out on a key emotional thread that could have added depth to the story.
Aamir Khan Feels Dhoom 3 Makers Made A BIG Mistake
Aamir didn’t hold back while talking about the creative decision. Speaking to Mashable India, “Dhoom 3 behtar ho sakti thi. Usme ek kirdaar tha jo Jai Dixit ki wife ka role hai, Sweety ka, woh character original script mein tha. Adi aur Victor ko laga woh zaruri nahi hai toh unhone nikaal diya, shoot hi nahi kiya. Mere hisab se woh unhone galti ki.”
He explained that the original story began with Sweety asking Jai for a divorce. She was upset because her husband (a cop) constantly missed special occasions like Karva Chauth and her birthday. To make things right, Jai planned a honeymoon, but before boarding the flight, he secretly met a police commissioner who assigned him a case in Chicago.
Instead of a romantic trip, Jai ended up juggling the case while pretending to be on vacation. Aamir added, “There was a moment later in the film when Sweety tells Jai she knew all along he wasn’t on a honeymoon and encourages him to complete the mission.”
An Emotional Angle That Never Made It
According to Aamir, the subplot gave Jai’s character a personal conflict that made him more relatable. It wasn’t just action and chase sequences, but also about emotional weight and human connection. Aamir questioned why the emotional setup was completely erased. He said, “Abhi toh wife ka character hi nahi hai naa.”
Dhoom 3 was directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and starred Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra, and Jackie Shroff. The film was a massive commercial success, but it did receive mixed feedback for its storytelling. Aamir’s revelation adds to the debate. Could that one deleted character have changed the film’s impact?
