OMG 2 Movie Review: Thought-provoking comedy-drama; Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi’s performance bang on; details

OMG 2 Movie Review: Director Amit Rai’s latest offering, OMG 2, delivers an unconventional yet crucial message masked within a courtroom drama. The film, while occasionally veering into irrationality, successfully drives home the significance of sex education in educational institutions. Anchored by stellar performances from Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi, OMG 2 is a thought-provoking and engaging watch.

From Devotion to Defamation

Kanti Sharan Mudgal (Pankaj Tripathi), an ardent Lord Shiva devotee, faces a grave challenge when his son Vivek (Aarush Varma) is subjected to public humiliation after a video of him goes viral. The video shows Vivek masturbating in his school washroom, leading to his expulsion and Kanti’s family being subjected to ridicule. Amidst the turmoil, a divine messenger (Akshay Kumar) enters Kanti’s life, guiding him to take matters into his own hands. Kanti decides to fight back, filing a defamation case against his son’s school, demanding an apology and his son’s readmission. However, he’s confronted by the formidable lawyer Kamini Maheshwari (Yami Gautam).

The courtroom drama with a purpose

Director Amit Rai deftly navigates the courtroom drama to underscore the need for sex education. The film draws attention to the historical relevance of topics such as reproductive organs and the Kamasutra in Indian culture, compared against the current taboo surrounding sex education in schools. The narrative also promotes open conversations between parents, teachers, and children about sexual behavior, breaking down societal taboos. Sensitive issues like consent, body image, and prostitution are tactfully woven into the script through skillful dialogues and sequences.

Performances and courtroom sequences

Pankaj Tripathi shines as Kanti, delivering a captivating performance that strikes a chord with the audience. Akshay Kumar’s cameo is noteworthy, although it lacks the impact of his previous role. Yami Gautam impresses but struggles to capture the menace her character demands. Aarush Varma delivers a powerful portrayal of Vivek’s vulnerability. The supporting cast, including Pavan Malhotra, Govind Namdev, Arun Govil, Brijendra Kala, and Simran Sharma, complements the lead actors effectively.
