Panama Papers Leak Case: Aishwarya Rai leaves ED office after 5 hours

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Ray waded through a sea of journalists and others as she left left the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office on Monday after being questioned for around five hours in the Panama Papers leak case. She appeared before the agencies in Delhi.

The ED summoned Aishwarya Rai, 48, over allegations of violations of forex rules. The probe agency recorded Aishwarya Rai’s statement in Delhi. She is facing allegation of stashing wealth abroad in violation of Foreign Exchange Management Act.

[5:08 AM, 12/21/2021] Jyoti B: The Enforcement Directorate started investigating allegations of foreign exchange violations in 2017. It had issued notices to the Bachchan family asking them to explain their foreign remittances since 2004 under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) of the Reserve Bank of India.
[5:09 AM, 12/21/2021] Jyoti B: The actor, sources said, has submitted some documents to the investigators with regard to the case.

Dubbed ‘Panama Papers’, an investigation of a stockpile of records from Panamanian legal firm Mossack Fonseca by the Washington-based International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) in 2016 had named several world leaders and celebrities who allegedly stashed away money abroad in offshore companies.

Some of them are stated to be holding valid overseas accounts.

The leaked tranche had a total of 426 India-linked cases.
